Neighborhood watch protect their beloved country

Last night, on January 29th 2011, Egyptians set up neighborhood watches and road blocks to protect their family and homes, as the police are no where to be seen. Where I live, the neighborhood watch have worked together to ensure the safety of their families, where they all spent the night keeping a look out for looters and the like. The atmosphere was almost tangible as the people united to protect one another. A sense of community and ownership was born. People realized that they share one purpose: to ensure the safety of our beloved country. It was, however, not an uneventful evening, as the neighborhood watch effectively stopped and captured three looters who attempted to enter the neighborhood and wreak havoc. As a single unit, the neighbors prevented any harm from reaching their homes, and kept the looters until they were handed over to the armed forces. It was revealed that these thugs had Police IDs. They were a part of the Secret Police.

The armed forces have played their part effectively, as they later arrived in two tanks saying they heard gunfire and wanted to ensure that the people were safe and well. This very scene is happening all across the nation, and it is clear that Egyptians have unified, be they military personnel or civilians, as they finally have their voices heard

Opposition groups appoint a committee to negotiate with the regime

Opposition groups and protest movement appoints a committee of ten members representing a wide spectrum of the political forces headed my Dr. ElBaradei to negotiate with the regime and/or army with the goal of forming a national unity government to end the existing deadlock. The committee includes Dr Baltagi from the Muslim Brotherhood, Ayman Nour from El Ghad Party, Dr Osama El Ghazaly Harb from DFP, George Ishak and Dr. Abdel Gelil Mostafa (NAC), Hamden Sabahi from Karama, and Abou El Ezz El Haariri representing the leftists. Opposition hopes that President Mubarak will announce stepping down as soon as possible from the office of presidency in response to the wide national consensus demonstrated by the protests in order to avoid undue suffering and chaos.
